Brenda Marjorie Huntley

On Saturday, July 11th, 2026, Brenda Marjorie Huntley, daughter of the late Don James “DJ” and Elizabeth “Betty” (Shuter) Oland, wife of devoted husband and true love, Sandy Huntley, beloved mother to her two girls, Emilia (Alain Pitout) Huntley, Toronto, and Zara (Dana Bontempo) Huntley, Vancouver, and grandmother to a treasured new grandson, Lucky Pitout, ended her journey here on earth, surrounded by the love of her family. 

Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, she was educated at the Sacred Heart, King’s-Edgehill School, and completed her senior year at Queen Elizabeth High School. Brenda was beautiful and charismatic, with a larger than life personality. A triple Sagittarius by most astrological charts, her fiery, adventurous, and charming disposition was truly magnetic.  Brenda will be remembered for her loving nature, sense of humour, and the style and grace she brought to every room she entered.

A passionate lover of animals, she was an accomplished equestrian and horse trainer. Participating in numerous horse shows with her childhood pony, Baker Boy, and later a thoroughbred cross, Lookwho. She loved and raised many dogs throughout her life. Most special to her though was Franey, a border collie who accompanied Brenda during her time volunteering at the IWK Health Centre.

She possessed a boundless lifelong love of music. A true aficionado, her eclectic and extensive record collection was legendary. One of the first radio DJs at Q104, The Home of Rock N Roll, Brenda brought her effortless charm and musical expertise to Halifax’s airwaves under the moniker, Miss Information.

Working in the fashion world in various capacities throughout her life she had an incredible, unique, and timeless sense of aesthetic. The very definition of “fashion fades, style is eternal”.

Near and dear to Brenda’s heart were the relationships she had with her cherished close friends that spanned decades and many adventures. She appreciated and delighted in every moment she spent with each of them. 

We’ll think of her when we hear a song by the Allman Brothers or Bonnie Raitt. When we see a mischievous dog giving their loving owner hell. And when we take her grandson to look for hidden fairies inside tree trunks and under rocks. 

In keeping with Brenda’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
